Propionic Acid

A colorless liquid used in the production of other chemicals, as a food preservative, and in the production of pesticides and pharmaceuticals.

Description

A colorless, corrosive liquid with a pungent odor that is a naturally-occuring acid. Uses: As a food preservative to prohibit the growth of mold and bacteria, in baked goods as a sodium of calcium salt, as a chemical intermediate, to make pesticides and pharmaceuticals, and sometimes as a solvent.
