Maleic Anhydride is an organic compound that is a colorless molten or white solid with an acrid odor produced by the oxidation of Benzene or by the vapor phase oxidation of butane. Very few plants currently use the benzene process, most have converted to butane. Mainly used in the manufacture of unsaturated polyester resins, Maleic in various forms can be used in applications such as: Alkyd resins for paints and coatings; surfactants/sulfosuccinic acid esters, co-polymers in inks, adhesives, cleaners, coatings, and corrosion inhibitors; widely used as an additive in lubricating oils and in agricultural chemicals.
