Maleic Acid

A white crystal that is used in the manufacture of other materials, in adhesives and sealants, in textiles, and in preparing pharmaceuticals.

Description

Maleic acid is a white crystal with a faint acidulous odor. It is soluble in water and is derived from maleic anhydride by hydrolysis. Uses: In the manufacture of pthalic-type alkyed and polyester resins, surface coatings, copolymers, plasticizers, lubricant additives and agricultural chemicals, in adhesives and sealants, as a preservative for oils and fats, in organic synthesis, dyeing and finishing wool, cotton and silk and in preparing the maleate salts of antihistamines and similar drugs.
