Description
Ethyl acetate is a colorless liquid with a characteristic sweet smell. It is the ester from ethanol and acetic acid and is primarily used as a solvent or a dilutent. It is also volatile and flammable. It is slightly soluble in water and miscible with most organic solvents such as alcohol, ether, and chloroform. Uses: A decaffeinator for coffee beans and tea leaves, a hardener in paints, in perfumes, created in wine as part of the fermentation process, also used in entomology to collect insect specimens.
