Description

Benzyl chloride is often used in the synthesis of other chemicals, particularly amphetamine-class drugs. For this reason, the sale of benzyl chloride is monitored by the Drug Enforcement Administration. It is quite volatile at room temperature which can cause irritation to the face and skin. It reacts with water in a hydrolysis reaction to form benzyl alcohol and hydrogen chloride.
